At the Extraenvironmentalist we’re always looking at new business models that evolve from the failure of our banking and monetary institutions. That’s why we run commercials like this one from the First National Bank of Mattress way back in Episode #33 at the end of 2011:
More than a year after the initial launch of the First National Bank of Mattress banking via mattress seems to be experiencing a bit of a renaissance with continued banking instability in the Eurozone. Micolochón, a company in Spain, has even launched a new mattress that includes a safe. You can watch their epic commercial here:
…the campaign to promote this product is a parody of the advertising of financial institutions. The bank in question is the ‘My Mattress Savings’ and Francisco Santos is the president of this course fictitious financial institution. The campaign encourages people to become customers, purchasing the mattress and keeping money under the mattress no longer, but in and with all the security of a safe, because “My Mattress Savings or bankruptcy or merges or dancing to the markets. “
As the EU and the rest of the global economy continues to suffer from a lack of economic growth, uneconomic growth will likely continue to boom into the near future. Mattress banking is just one many products and services that will emerge from the failure of our formal economies.
h/t to Mish’s Global Economic Trend Analysis for leading me on to the mattress safe.
